OUR KENNEL
Copperfield Bullmastiffs was founded in 1947 by Gerald Warren and is the oldest surviving bullmastiff kennel in the world.
The kennel was handed over to Bill Warren by his parents and is now in the safe hands of both Bill and his partner Vikki.
Gerald was born in Rochester, Kent where Charles Dickens lived and about which he wrote in his classics. When deciding on an affix Copperfield sprang to mind and all of our dogs both past and present have been named after characters from the Dickens novels.
Although the kennel is now based in Nottinghamshire our allegiance to Kent will never weaken.
Gerald and Doris are still involved in the dogs but more in an advisory and puppy rearing capacity, these days.
Bullmastiffs are a way of life for us but they are not our business. We only have one or two litters each year and breed quality dogs for our own pleasure, not just to keep up with current trends.
Whilst we are successful in the show ring our dogs are pets first and foremost and their health, happiness and welfare always comes first.
Many people are surprised to learn that our bullmastiffs generally live until they are twelve or thirteen, this is probably because all our spare time is dedicated to them and our own needs come an extremely poor second!
